Happy Valentine’s Day!
This day comes again, once in a year.
In Japan, it is only the women who give presents [usually chocolates] to men. Japanese women are usually too shy to express their love. Therefore, Valentine’s Day was thought to be a great opportunity for women to express their feelings. However, this is a custom that smart chocolate companies spread to boost their sales, and it has been very successful. Now the chocolate companies in Japan sell more than half of their annual sales during the week before Valentine’s Day. Men are supposed to return gifts to women on a day called “White Day” (March 14th), a day which is created by Japanese and exists only in Japan.
If you have visited Google today, you will see something special – a Ferris Wheel game. Coincidentally, today is also the 154th birthday of the inventor of Ferris Wheel – George Ferris. He is an American engineer who created the first original Ferris Wheel for the 1893 Chicago World’s Columbian Exposition.
Let’s visit Google to try the doodle for Valentine’s Day!

Only women give gifts? I can think of a lot of men who would wish to congratulate the Japanese on this enlightened practice:)
But if the men give gifts on this day, it means women will need to return gifts on …. the white day? Doesn’t make sense.
